All around the world, there is a continuous shortage of nurses. The sudden demand for nurses makes one wonder if these people who take the course are really willing to serve the patients or are they just concerned about earning money.
According to Nurses Association, an estimate of 2,000 doctors enrolled in nursing schools throughout the country. In the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) forum, former Health Secretary and Executive Director of the National Institute of Health announced that an alarming 100,000 nurses left the country from 1994 to 2003. These statistics point to the Philippines as the top exporter of nurses worldwide.
The response to migration is not only widespread in big cities in the country. One can see the effects of the nursing epidemic. Whenever I ask students around the campus what course they are going to take for college, most of the answers is NURSING.
When asked why they want to pursue a degree in Nursing, most of the answers is to go abroad. Personally, I have nothing against anybody taking up nursing but if it is just for the pay then they have to think twice. They are not just responsible for themselves but also for the other’s lives. As an old saying goes, “The true way to render ourselves happy is to love our work and find in it our pleasure.”

My Compelling Story with the Apex Project
I started with the APEX project on Nov 2003 when I was sent to SEAMEO-INNOTECH as part of the LEYTE teachers’ participants who were tasked to make a draft of the First Year Math I Guide.
There were two things that attracted me to APEX Project. One was the opportunity to visit Manila for the first time and second was the CTL training. My first trip to MANILA in 2003 and the task assigned to me was a great learning experience and challenge aside from the fact that I gained new friends in the teaching field. The summer 2004 CTL training workshop conducted by Dr. Lloyd Guidry and Mr. John Chamberlain was also a great experience for me because I was introduced to a new teaching strategy. I also gained new friends not only from our province in Leyte but also from Laguna.
From the experiences I gained during the training workshop, I was encouraged to pursue graduate studies for career development and in order to help me gain my self-confidence.
My peak experience occurred when I was able to attend the ILE seminar at La Rica Hotel, Tacloban City and the main topic was on Entrepreneurship. The topic led me to discover my entrepreneurial skills.
My Principal Mr. Eude Carlos A. Yap and our TLE teacher Mr. Charles Lacuña were with me during this seminar.
Listening to the discussion on the benefits gained when one engages in entrepreneurship, I began to think of the possibilities of me engaging in a small business. I shared these ideas with Mr. Lacuña. His encouragement boosted my resolve to engage in a small buy and sell business. At present, I am truly happy and slowly becoming fulfilled that I dared to engage in this small business.
To ensure a better future of the APEX project the three strategic goals should include the following:
a. complete awareness of the LLCI school community members, the LIDE or its local community and the bigger community that is Isabel of the objectives and goals of the APEX project;
b. strong cooperation / collaboration within the school, benefactor companies and the LGU be made an active partners of the project specially that they will gain benefits from the project;
c. the entrepreneurship curriculum must be incorporated in the TLE offerings in the schools as to provide choices to the students and broaden their learning too.
In 2017, I envisioned LLCI as the leading implementer of the APEX project in Isabel and provide venue and training for the APEX teachers in other schools in the Isabel community.
LLCI will have new buildings and with improved facilities specially in the TLE classroom and workshop area. The school has completely implemented the entrepreneurial curriculum while enhancing the technical preparations of the students.
As for me, I will be a businesswoman engaging in a business of supplying affordable school educational materials and supplies to our APEX schools in Isabel.
If I could wave a magic wand today, the three strategic goals and priority agenda for the APEX school and community to focus on are;
a. provide a continued intensive training and enhancement workshop for the APEX teachers in the community;
b. assurance of continued financial support from the stakeholders like the LGU and the PASAR Foundation Inc;
c. form an evaluation/documentation committee in the school and community that will closely monitor or supervise the implementation of the project in the school and community.
“ It opened possibilities for me to engage in an entrepreneurial undertakings”.
The three themes are the following:
1. I was given the opportunity to travel and participate in a training workshop that provided me with the necessary exposures.
2. These opportunities to travel and attend seminar and workshops helped me gained my self-confidence.
3. The involvement in the APEX project gave me an opportunity to realize my entrepreneurial skills and act on it.

Promoting Health To Oneself
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well- being, not merely the absence of diseases or infirmities. Mental and social well - being are extremely important, as well as the emotional development of a person.
It is important that the fetus starts to develop in the womb of a pregnant mother nourishment and care are necessary. From the time the baby is born, loving care is much needed until the baby grows up. When you are grown up, then, you can be left to take care of yourself. Nobody can make your health, a desirable one, except yourself. To achieve an enjoyable health, prolong life and slow down aging. You have to work for it.
The holistic health point of view considers the human being as a whole rather than part by part. Holistic health is a philosophy of caring for you in a positive manner than through a medical approach. It includes all the dimensions of health and the environment where the individual lives.
It is really important to take care of yourself to achieve a better wealth.
